We called our sitter, Courtney, who lives in our building. She came upstairs to stay with Silas, and Meredith and I took a cab to the children's hospital at Columbia.
Rebecca, a good friend of ours from medical school (pictured), was "running the board" that evening, meaning she was the doctor in charge of all the nighttime deliveries.
Needless to say, we received fantastic care.
Meredith was amazing throughout a painful labor. The epidural finally came at 6:00, and Rosemary Justine was born soon after, at 6:13 a.m.
Charlene brought Silas at lunchtime. We weren't sure what would happen, but he was thrilled. He was equally excited about his sister's arrival and Meredith's mechanical hospital bed. Silas pressed so many buttons that he somehow disabled the thing -- we had to call the nurse to fix it.
Rosemary received a lot of visitors, many of whom we failed to photograph. Pictured below are Greg, Kelley, Margaret, Judith, and Gloria.
